Tips To Make Sure That You Are Never Locked Out Of Your House Again

Getting locked out of your house is not a lot of fun, especially if you are unsure as to how you are going to get back in without making a mess or spending a lot of money on a locksmith. Therefore, you might want to take a few minutes to review the following tips that will help ensure that this will no longer be an issue that you will have to worry about.

Hide Spare Keys Creatively

There are a lot of people that do not want to hide spare keys outside out of fear that a criminal will find them. Well, that will not be a concern if you are hiding the spare house key with superb creativity. Instead of using those plastic fake hide a key rocks found online and in the stores, you are going to want to take a different route. You can place your spare key in a sealed plastic sandwich bag and tuck it under the decorative stones in your bird bath or under the seeds in the bird feeder. Only you will know that it is there.

Install A High Tech Door Lock

You might want to think about installing a high tech lock that uses either a standard key, pass code or fingerprint to get into the house. This way, if you misplace your key or left it inside before you locked yourself out, you will still be able to get back in. Of course, if you purchase the pass code lock, you have to be certain that you are setting a code that you will not forget and that no one will guess. For example, avoid codes such as your house number or your birth date. If you are afraid that there is even the slightest chance that you could forget the code, you will want to go with the fingerprint door lock.

Trust A Neighbor With A Key

This is especially helpful if you are someone that ventures out of town on business a lot and need someone to check on your plants or animals. Of course, you will need to make sure that this is a neighbor that you have known for a while and that is not out of town a lot as well. After all, you would still find yourself locked out of the house if the neighbor with the extra house key is rarely home for you to retrieve it from them.

As you can see, there are a few good ways to make sure that you are never going to find yourself stuck outside again. For more information, contact a local locksmith (like Redmond Lock & Key).

About Me

Choosing New Door Locks

A few years ago, I realized that my house was no longer safe. I had been recently divorced, and my ex kept coming over unannounced. To solve the problem, I contacted a locksmith in my area who could help. He walked me through all of my options, and it was great to have an expert advise my decision. I ended up installing a really cool electronic deadbolt that had a keypad entry. This blog is all about teaching homeowners how to choose locks, because I know how hard the decision was for me.
